My time with Joy
My Time with Joy is a personal project exploring art journaling as a practice of free creativity without the pursuit of perfection. Through this practice, I reconnected with playfulness, unfiltered self-expression, and a sense of joy once lost under the responsibilities and expectations of daily life.
The story behind this project
After another day in years of a career-centered routine, I came home feeling uninspired. Somewhere between productivity, obligations, and trying to meet the expectations of others, I felt tired and unhappy. In search of more moments of recovery and happiness, I began making time for the things I genuinely enjoyed.
Drawing and painting were something I enjoyed doing for hours. But every time I tried to create, I carried the pressure to make something perfect and impressive, which often stopped me before I even began. So I turned to art journaling: a single page whenever I had time. No expectations, no perfection, just something made for myself because it feels good.
With every finished page came the reminder that putting myself and my happiness first is not selfish, but an act of well-being. By choosing what brings me joy in small, daily acts, life feels more manageable and meaningful.
Now, I start my mornings in quiet, with a cup of coffee and a blank page. Then, thoughts and feelings slowly become colors and shapes on paper.
